International Maternity Patients

St Vincent’s Private Maternity is a popular choice for patients from outside Australia choosing to have the birth of their baby in Melbourne.  We have been delivering babies for over 80 years and welcome nearly 3000 newborns every year.

Our maternity centre offers modern and comfortable private rooms with your own private ensuite. We also include everything you need for your baby to have their very first bath in the comfort of your own room.
 
We have over 50 of Melbourne’s top obstetricians (PDF 297.5KB) accredited to deliver your baby with us.  Many of our obstetricians speak languages other than English. Obstetricians are located within the hospital and in the surrounding buildings so that expert care is always right there when you need it.
 
Assisting you in your birth will be our team of highly qualified and experienced midwives. Our midwifery team will work with you to support you to achieve the style of birth you would prefer.
 
After the birth of your baby, you will receive attention from our maternity physio team who will provide a one on one consultation to help you recover quickly from the birth of your baby.

We also have a team of internationally qualified Lactation Consultants to assist you establish breastfeeding.  Our breast feeding clinic is available exclusively to patients of St Vincent’s Private. You are welcome to speak with the breastfeeding clinic staff as often as you like after you leave our care.

Special Care Nursery

Sometimes, babies need a little bit of extra care and attention.

Our Special Care Nursery is the highest rated Special Care Nursery in a private hospital in Victoria.  

Our Nursery has advanced modern equipment to ensure we can care for your baby if they need some additional support. Rated a Level 5 Special Care Nursery, our very experienced neonatal paediatricians and nursing staff will provide your baby with outstanding care and attention.  Because our Nursery is so well equipped, we regularly care for babies with complex care needs, babies born prematurely (from 32 weeks) and also multiple births.

Booking in

All maternity patients wanting to deliver their baby with us will need to book one of our accredited obstetricians (PDF 297.5KB) to provide them with pregnancy and birthing care.
 
We also welcome you to come and take a tour of the hospital maternity services.

For Mandarin Speaking patients, we also have additional services in our Mandarin maternity centre.

Fees for International Patients

If you are a visitor to Australia and do not have a Medicare card you will be required to pay for all costs for the birth of your baby prior to your delivery.

International Visitors who hold the appropriate health cover, including obstetrics may seek reimbursement from their fund.
