Mary Ann Johnson is a General and Oesophago-gastric Surgeon. Her specialty training was completed at the Austin hospital. She then had further accredited post-fellowship Upper Gastrointestinal training interstate and internationally (UK), with specific training in advanced Oesophagi-gastric Resectional Surgery.  

She is a member of ANZGOSA. While she has broad experience in many aspects of general surgery, her sub specialty interests include achalasia, gallstones, groin hernia, reflux, gastric ulcers, abdominal wall hernia, hiatus hernia, diaphragmatic hernia and advanced oesophageal and gastric surgery, in particular oesophageal and gastric cancer. Dr Johnson is also accredited to perform Gastroscopy, Interventional Endoscopy and ERCP.

She teaches on RACS courses (ASSET and CcRISP). She currently holds a professional advisor position on the St Vincent's Hospital Human Research Ethics Committee and is also a member of the Clinical Policy Review Committee. She has demonstrated her passion for research by presenting nationally and internationally. Her current research interests are improving quality-of-life for patients who have major Oesophago-gastric surgery.
