Tom is an Obstetrician/Gynaecologist with special interests in the obstetric management of diabetes and in pelvic floor surgery for prolapse, incontinence or obstetric trauma. His obstetric practice also encompasses low to high-risk deliveries primarily at St Vincent's Hospital.

Dr Cades’ gynaecology practice includes operating laparoscopically for common gynaecological problems such as infertility, pelvic pain or ovarian cysts, with a particular focus on vaginal corrective surgery.

He is the Head of Diabetes at the Royal Women's Hospital and has a Research Higher Degree (doctorate) in the management of diabetes. He is a pelvic floor surgeon at the Royal Women's Hospital, has an academic appointment at Melbourne University and is on the Board of Examiners for RANZCOG.
