He specialises in limb sparing surgery, where tumours are excised in their entirety while preserving the function of the limb through sophisticated, biologic and prosthetic reconstructions. Also specialising in chest wall, trunk and pelvic tumour surgery, and major joint reconstruction including hip and knee replacement surgery. Professor Choong currently holds positions of Sir Hugh Devine Chair of Surgery, Head of Department of Surgery at University of Melbourne Department at St Vincent’s Hospital Melbourne, Director of Orthopaedics at St Vincent’s Hospital Melbourne, and Peter MacCallum Cancer Centre and Chair of Bone and Soft Tissue Tumour Service at St Vincents Hospital Melbourne and Peter MacCallum Cancer Centre. Peter undertook advanced orthopaedic training at the Musculoskeletal Tumour Centre, University Hospital in Lund, Sweden and also at the Department of Orthopaedics, at the Mayo Clinic in Rochester, USA. Peter has a strong background in research and teaching through the University of Melbourne Department of Surgery at St Vincent’s, and is recognised internationally for this role in the Orthopaedic profession.
