You can find out the likely cost of your hospital stay before you arrive. Speak to your admitting doctor about medical, diagnostic and ancillary service fees. Our business office can assist with the cost of items such as accommodation/bed charges, theatre fees and prosthesis charges.
This can help you understand the account you will receive from the hospital on discharge.
Your hospital account includes the costs associated with your hospital stay, including accommodation, theatre fees and any prostheses used. We will submit a claim to your health fund on your behalf.
You will also receive separate accounts from your surgeon, anaesthetist, physician and any other doctor involved in your care. Medicare and your health fund may cover a portion of these costs but you will be required to submit to the fund directly.
Diagnostic services such as x-ray and pathology will be billed separately to your hospital account. You can claim for these through Medicare and your health fund. Medicare and/or your health fund may not cover the entire cost of these so there may be some out-of-pocket expenses. This may be capped by your health fund.

The cost of your medications may differ if they are prescribed prior to admission, during your stay or at discharge, if listed on the Pharmaceutical Benefits Scheme Schedule, or you hold a concession card. Read about medication costs.
